E-Trafficking and the Internet

The internet is a place where anything possible can happen because of its accessibility and globalism. It makes it attainable for people all over the world to participate uniquely in ways that they would not really part take in. It is a place where new identities are made and where people freely interact with each other and where different issues are raised such as e-trafficking.
I came across an article by Scot Worden, where he mainly explains the growth of sex trade with the speed and anonymity of the internet. He discusses how the internet makes it easier for men to prey on women in developing countries particularly in Asia (Worden 2000). There are many countries in Asia that are suffering from poverty and people tend to see working abroad as an option of survival. The internet takes this into a whole new level by allowing the buying and selling of sex. Worden (2000) notes in his article that these women are forced to participate in sex trade as prostitutes booked online, e-mail order brides and video-conference strippers. This shows just how desperate people are to make money and see the internet and sex as the solution to all their problems.
The internet takes everything to a whole new level and allows people not to be afraid and can be anything they want to be. They can live in an identity in sex trade and no one else will be able to figure this out unless looked up in the computer. The internet also makes it very convenient, for example the video conference stripper will just need a webcam, computer and internet connection for participating in any activity and will not need any physical contact with the other.
The internet is a growing world where anything is possible and where people can escape from the reality and live under a secret identity. A place where e-trafficking is increasing, expanding and evolving together with new media and technology.
